On this episode of The Cine-Files, Steve Morris and John Rocha return to the USS Alabama to resume their exploration of Tony Scott's 1995 submarine action thriller CRIMSON TIDE starring Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. Written by Michael Schiffer and Richard P. Henrick (with an uncredited rewrite by Quentin Tarantino), it also features a score from Hans Zimmer who won a Grammy for its theme. The film focuses on a clash of wills between the seasoned commanding officer of a U.S. nuclear missile submarine Captain Ramsey (Hackman) and his new executive officer Lt. Commander Hunter (Denzel), arising from conflicting interpretations of an order to launch their missiles. Steve and John go thru the movie scene by scene to break down the direction, acting, storylines, cinematography, score, action sequences and debate the motivations of Ramsey and Hunter in this tense and taut action thriller.
